North Byron Parklands is a world-class Cultural Events Site. It is the home of Splendour in the Grass and the Falls Festival Byron. The idea behind the site came as a consequence of the primary festival site in Byron Bay, Belongil Fields, being proposed for re-zoning for residential purposes.
Culture and the celebration of music has always been an important part of the social and economic fabric of the Northern Rivers. Accordingly, the establishment of an ecologically sustainable permanent Cultural Events Site has been an important land use in Byron Shire.
The initial application for this site was processed and approved under Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, but only as a 5 year “trial”. A PLANNERS NORTH partnership principal prepared the Environmental Assessment documentation for the Part 3A assessment and we continued to provide Town Planning advice to the venue as it approached an important milestone of obtaining permanency. Permanent DA consent was issued in 2019.
